Professional Profile

Professor Islam has been in the university teaching and research profession for more than two decades with expertise in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), climate change, and environmental management.

Currently serving as Professor at the Department of Geography and Environment, Jahangirnagar University, he has been actively involved in cutting-edge research in floodplain and watershed management, climate change impacts on agriculture, and environmental components analysis.

Apart from his permanent position at Jahangirnagar University, Professor Islam has served as Honorary Assistant Professor at the School of Geography, University of Nottingham, UK. He is supervising several MPhil and PhD candidates on climate change, ecosystem services, flood management, and environmental dynamics.

He is an enlisted reviewer of several peer-reviewed high-impact journals including Climate Change, Land Degradation and Sedimentology. Professor Islam is also involved in development activities with several institutions, having served as consultant to Bangladesh NGO Foundation, BRAC, and Arayanak Foundation.
